Flashback Friday - The College "Drop Off"

I was born the 4th of six children,
{ten children once we blended families...}
So, when I got dropped off at college
at the ripe age of 17
{yes, I was SUPER young}
It was two weeks after my High School graduation,
where I had received
{as a gift from the parents}
a set of luggage,
and some assistance packing.
My Mom was like
 "Peace out"
{not even taking time to make sure
that the one photo I have to mark this momentous occasion
was in focus}
as she left me here at the curb of my dorm.
My belongings had been shipped to Utah
via Greyhound
{on a bus?, yes...}
and all I had to my name was this one quilt,
and a few changes of clothing,
until the packages arrived,
about a week later.
I pretty much love(d) that about my mom,
because it allowed me to move forward
and go live my life without feeling guilt
that it was somehow causing her unhappiness.

How could it?
She was probably too busy throwing a party
 that the second of the three estrogen producing children
had left the building.
Besides, she had a HS football fundraiser to plan
and whole wheat bread to bake.
{along with wrangling the remaining six children at home...}

I would like to say I learned from her,
and I am ALSO great
 at dealing with change in my life,
but I would also like to say I can do a pull-up.
You can't have everything!

Julie, my BYU drop off experience was almost exactly the same! It was a month after graduation (summer term). My mom already left at 5am. Carolyn dropped me off with my overnight bag. The rest of my stuff was at her house. She drove away, and then I found that I was locked out of Felt Hall (@ Heritage). I had to bang on one of the side doors. I cried all weekend, and I hid it by wearing my huge sunglasses everywhere I went. I probably looked like such a diva :)
